The language of social media!

Media do not share a universal language style. It is different to create content for a newspaper and different to write for the web and especially for social media.

The best tips for Twitter!
Christine Cawthorne, guest lecturer  of Journalism Studies in University of Sheffield, introduced to the 'Web Journalism MA' students this week the basic tips to write in the language of social media. Exciting!

I took some notes and present them to you:
  • Don't be abstract: What is your content about?
  • Be accurate. Don't promise what you can't deliver.
  • Be bossy. People like being told what to do.
  • Ask a question.
  • Involve the reader by saying 'You'.
  • Use 'W' words.
  • Work backwards. Write your title last.
  • Use the rule of Thirds: Writing - Layout - Title.
  • Think: Would this make me click through?

Apply the above tips to all social media you deal with on a daily basis. Always remember that you are the one who has to grab the attention from all these thousands of readers on web.

Good luck!
